SCENARIO
Multi-Issue Scenario File Manager and Plugin

SCENARIO is the function in TEAPAC Complete for creating and managing multi-variable, multi-issue scenario analyses for any other TEAPAC application, as well as for any third-party program for which TEAPAC can create data files.  The key to the value of SCENARIO is that all of the data files for the multi-variable analyses are maintained without any duplication of data, this duplication being the typical downfall for the more common use of the SaveAs function to save multiple data files for multiple scenarios.  When SaveAs is used, most of the data in each of the files is a duplicate of every other file, causing undue burdens on the user to make subsequent changes in every file when input data values are changed due to identified errors or changing assumptions.  With SCENARIO, a single data file is maintained for the data which doesn’t change between analyses, while separate data files are created and maintained automatically for the values which change between scenarios.  In any TEAPAC application using the defined scenario structure, the appropriate files are used automatically to save and retrieve data from the designated scenario cases, making the management of the entire data effort simple and easy, regardless of the complexity of the analysis or the number of conditions being analyzed.

Scenario definitions can be conceptually simple with something as mundane as three volume conditions for a single intersection, or almost arbitrarily complex with multiple independent issues (up to five), each of which vary arbitrary, user-defined sets of mutually-exclusive data variables, with as many as 25 conditions for each defined issue.  Any time a change is made to a given scenario, either in input values or results to be passed to another function, the change is saved in the proper condition files for easy retrieval by the next function and/or at a later date by the same function.

SCENARIO has the ability to manage data for any TEAPAC application function, including signal analysis, traffic impact analysis, count analysis and progression analysis.  Since it also directly manages exported data, it thereby allows for the indirect management of data files for HCS, NOSTOP, TRANSYT, TSPPD, PASSER-II, SYNCHRO, NETSIM/CORSIM, to take advantage of the benefits each of these programs offer.
