CORSIM Watch...

This page identifies specific issues we are aware of regarding the CORSIM software published by the Federal Highway Administration. Please be aware that this information is the best available at the time it is published, and may not be accurate for recently released versions. You might also check our User Discussion Forum for questions and discussions which may also be helpful.

This page is relevant to TEAPAC software users because the PRENETSIM function creates data files for the CORSIM program from an easy-to-use interface which allows data entry in easy-to-understand traffic terms on graphical screens, as well as from other TEAPAC functions such as PRETRANSYT which prepares input files for TRANSYT, PREPASSR which prepares input files for PASSER-II, PRETSPPD which prepares input files for TS/PP-DRAFT, PRESYNCHRO which prepares input files for SYNCHRO/SIMTRAFFIC, and SIGNAL which optimizes signal timings and phasings for HCM capacity analyses.

2/21/00 - Micronode Modeling in CORSIM (Ver 4.32)

In recent versions of CORSIM there has been some concern as to whether micronode modeling is necessary, appropriate, or even works properly. These questions have been answered in Ver 4.32 - micronode modeling has been disabled completely. This clearly indicates that micronode modeling was flawed in previous versions and should not be used.

2/18/00 - Dragging Project Files to CORSIM (Ver 4.32)

Ver 4.2 allowed a project file to be opened from a command line, including from the Run command, the command prompt and a batch file. Ver 4.32 still allows this function, but with a very strange limitation -- the .tcf extension on the project file name must be lower case or not only will the project not be opened, but TSIS will not open either. The same is also true of project files which are dragged to an open TSIS window -- the dragged file must have a lower-case extension. Since PRENETSIM launches CORSIM using a project file name which is all upper case when the AUTO option of Export is used (the same way the file is created), Export AUTO will currently not open TSIS when using PRENETSIM with Ver 4.32. If you are using PRENETSIM with Ver 4.32, please contact us for a pre-release of an updated PRENETSIM that will accomodate this change in TSIS logic.

2/17/00 - Change in Lane Channelization Logic (Ver 4.32)

Ver 4.32 processes lane channelizations differently than earlier versions of NETSIM and CORSIM, leading to erroneous lane usage by CORSIM 4.32 if the unrestricted channelization code is used. This means that CORSIM data files which ran perfectly fine under previous versions of CORSIM will no longer produce valid results under 4.32, and there will be no message or warning to this effect. The only place it can be observed is in the animation where users will see vehicles turning from incorrect lanes. Since up until now PRENETSIM has used the unrestricted channelization code, this means files exported from PRENETSIM will not create valid CORSIM files for Ver 4.32. If you are using Ver 4.32, please be aware of this logic change in CORSIM for ANY data file you are using, regardless of its source. If you are using PRENETSIM, please contact us for a pre-release of an updated PRENETSIM that will accomodate this change in CORSIM logic.
